Maumoon Foundation Launches 'Maumoon' Font in Collaboration with Akuru Type

The Maumoon Foundation is proud to announce the official launch of the Maumoon font, a unique typeface inspired by the handwriting of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. This collaboration with Akuru Type and the Dhivehi Type Foundry marks a significant milestone in preserving and promoting the Dhivehi language in the digital era.

The Maumoon font is the first of its kind, created directly from the handwriting of a Maldivian president. Developed by the Dhivehi Type Foundry under the guidance of Type Director Abdullah Shafiu (Abo), the font captures the elegance and distinctiveness of President Gayoom's penmanship, which has been a hallmark of his public communications.

The official launch ceremony took place at the Malé Art Gallery on February 21, 2025, coinciding with International Mother Language Day. Former President Gayoom expressed his gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of promoting and developing the Dhivehi language as a key element of national identity and progress .

The Maumoon font is now available for free personal use and can be purchased for commercial use through Akuru Type's official website. This initiative not only honors President Gayoom's legacy but also provides a valuable resource for Maldivians and Dhivehi speakers worldwide to engage with their language in a modern, accessible format.
