Chairman Appoints Dr. Ibrahim Hassan as Senior Education Advisor

The Maumoon Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ibrahim Hassan to the role of Senior Education Advisor.

Dr. Ibrahim Hassan is a distinguished figure in the Maldivian education sector, with a career spanning academic scholarship, teaching, and national leadership in education reform. He holds a PhD in Mathematical Abstraction from Macquarie University, Australia, and has specialised in mathematics education and teacher development throughout his career. He was first appointed to the Cabinet in 2008 as Minister of Higher Education, Employment and Social Services. More recently, he served as the Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Maldives (2018–2023), where he played a pivotal role in shaping national education policy, including advancing the Maldives Education Sector Plan and leading major initiatives to expand equitable access to higher education, technical and vocational training, and student financing across the country.

He has also represented the Maldives internationally, engaging with global institutions such as the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) to strengthen cooperation in education, science, and cultural development.

Dr. Hassan brings extensive experience in policy development, academic leadership, and international collaboration. His work has consistently focused on improving accessibility, equity, and quality within higher education systems, as well as promoting opportunities for Maldivian youth both locally and abroad.

In his new role, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan will advise the Foundation on strategic educational initiatives, with a particular emphasis on identifying human resource gaps in the Maldives and addressing priority areas of education required for national development.

The Chairman welcomed the appointment, stating that Dr. Hassan’s depth of experience and national service will greatly enhance the Foundation’s efforts to support education and human capital development in the Maldives.
