Ahmed Faris Maumoon, commonly known as Faris, currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Maumoon Foundation, where he plays a key role in advancing the foundation's mission of promoting Islam, education, and community development in the Maldives.
Faris has held significant roles in the Maldivian government, including serving as the Minister of State for Economic Development from November 2013 to June 2015. He was also elected as a Member of Parliament (People's Majlis) for the Dhiggaru constituency, where he served from June 2015 to May 2019.
Born and raised in Malé, Maldives, Faris is the eldest son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim. He is one of four siblings, alongside Dunya Maumoon, Yumna Maumoon, and Ghassan Maumoon.
Faris’ educational journey began at Majeediyya School in Malé, where he completed his GCE O Levels. He later pursued his GCE A Levels in England. He went on to earn a BA (Hons) in Combined Social Sciences from the University of Durham, England, followed by a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
Faris is passionate about making a positive impact in his country and beyond, drawing from his diverse academic background and experience in both government and non-profit sectors.
